Can the Philadelphia Eagles bounce back in 2012 Season?
After being dubbed the best team in the NFL right out of the gate last season, the Philadelphia Eagles only disappointed their fans as they failed to make the playoffs. Along with failing to make the postseason, the Eagles had spent millions of dollars upgrading both sides of the football and making superstar quarterback Michael Vick a very rich man.
In the 2012 NFL season, the Eagles will have tremendous pressure on them to be successful and get back on track as one of the best all-around teams in the NFL. Unlike last year, Philadelphia is standing pat in free agency with no big-name acquisitions or game-changing trades. This is already a step in the right direction for a storied franchise that can’t afford to have another disappointing season.
The real question from here on out is whether or not the Eagles can bounce back in 2012. There is no question that players like Vick, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson want to come out with the vengeance as they were embarrassed after seeing the way things panned out last year. McCoy was the only one of the three star players that actually lived up to expectations and earned his salary.
With McCoy emerging as an elite Pro Bowl-caliber running back last season, the Eagles have something to work with offensively. Vick will almost certainly want to prove that he’s not injury-prone and Jackson has finally signed a new deal that he is happy with.
Needless to say, the Philadelphia Eagles will be scary team in the NFC Conference next season as they will be looking to prove they’re amongst the elite in the NFL.
Eagles’ Andy Reid on the Hot Seat to Start 2012 Season
Coming into the 2011 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles were considered to be the team that had improved more than any other in the league. With quarterback Michael Vick emerging as a superstar once again and multiple Pro Bowlers signed in free agency, the Eagles made the biggest splash in the offseason and were looking at contending for a Super Bowl title with no team in the NFC Conference more talented on both sides of the football.
Unfortunately, despite seemingly getting upgrades all over the football field in free agency and via trade, the Eagles were great on paper and horrible on the gridiron. Along with Philly not being able to come together, Vick was starting to show his injury-prone ways once again as he struggled to stay healthy all season long.
Ultimately, the Eagles were a flop and a huge disappointment as they went from Super Bowl title contenders to missing the NFL playoffs entirely. No one saw this coming; especially Eagles head coach Andy Reid.
As arguably one of the most successful head coaches in the NFL in terms of consecutive playoff appearances, Reid seemed like a shell of his former self. Even though it seemed that Reid had completely turned around this team a season earlier, the longtime shot caller just couldn’t get this extremely talented team together and therefore was considered to be on the hot seat in Philly.
In 2012, Reid will be on the hot seat right out of the gate in Philadelphia as a bad start or missing the playoffs might be enough to convince the Eagles’ front office to fire the head coach.
